| En este trabajo se presentan los resultados del reconocimiento geológico de la zona de playa, zona de dunas, de los acantilados, así como fotografías de las características geomorfológicas más sobresalientes de la Bahía de Jaramijó, observadas en el año 2008. Los acantilados son de mediana a baja altura, conformados por rocas sedimentarias, principalmente de la Formación Tablazo. Hay algunos sectores donde la erosión es más fuerte, producto del socavamiento que hace el oleaje en la base de los acantilados. | Se señalan las especies del género Ceratixm Schrank (Dinoflagellatae, Peridiniales) de las Islas dei Rosario, Caribe colombiano, en relación con los parámetros físicos del agua para tres épocas climáticas y se encuentra que corresponden igualmente a tres poblaciones diferentes, manteniéndole algunas especies comunes a todas ellas. | ABSTRACT This experiment was conducted to evaluate the effect of egg weight and egg physical characteristics on embryonic development, hatchability, and hatchling weight of Japanese quails (Coturnix coturnix japonica). In total, 689 eggs were classified in two categories: small (<13.5 g) or large (≥13.5 g), and different external eggshell and internal quality traits were measured. On days 6 and 14 of incubation, tissue triiodothyronine (T3) and thyroxine (T4) were extracted from embryos in both egg sizes and analyzed. | An investigation was carried out on the effect of expeller press parameters such as choke clearances (1, 2 and 3 mm), screw clearances (1, 2 and 3 mm) and screw (worm) shaft speeds (50, 60 and 70 rpm) on fish oil extraction. The oil extraction rate and extraction efficiency had a negative relationship with choke clearances and screw clearances but had a positive relationship with screw (worm) shaft speeds. The oil extraction rate and extraction efficiency were found to decrease with increase in choke clearances and also decreased with increase in screw clearances. | The adsorption and desorption equilibrium moisture content/equilibrium relative humidity relationships of sunflower seeds with four different oil contents (35.7%, 44.6%, 48.6% and 52.7%) were obtained for temperatures of 8, 15, 25 and 35°C and moisture contents of 6.0%, 8.5%, 11.0%, 13.5%, 16.0% and 18.5%.The goodness of fit of four equilibrium moisture content/equilibrium relative humidity models (Modified Henderson, Modified Chung-Pfost, Modified Halsey and Modified Oswin) were evaluated for each oil content. | The aim of this work was to analyze hydrological condition variations in Cienfuegos’ Bay in 2011 and its possible influence in life cycle and distribution of the green mussel Perna viridis. The hydrological parameters in the bay are described according to the campaigns performed in February, May and November. Samples from two levels (surface and bottom) were taken, in order to get water temperature, salinity and dissolved oxygen. The results show the climatic seasonality influence (dry and rain) both in spatial as well as in vertical distribution of the observed parameters. | A theory using mechanical expression was proposed from the physics of oil expression in a screw press to characterize a mathematical model. The general oil expression equation was solved for three machine parameters (choke clearances, screw shaft clearances and screw shaft speeds) which simulate the machine parameters effects in the overall screw expeller process. The mathematical model was validated by the experimental data obtained from pressing fish oil with a screw press, using regression analysis.
